Rough Winter
Hmmm. Where to start? Well, after two back-to-back blizzards, getting to the animals has been pretty tough. The temps have been in single digits and the wind won't quit. We've had our driveway plowed a couple times, but the snow just blows right back and you'd never know that it was ever cleared. That means we need to snowshoe in every day, and drag in hay and supplies by sled. We're back to the old windmill and stock tank for water, which we haul bucket by bucket to the barn. The snow has been so relentless that, at one point, all you could see were the roofs of the goat houses. Most of the animals are doing OK -- except for Lightning. He's had a lingering ligament injury that can get very swollen. He lays down so much that he's often covered in filth, and we just noticed that he's come down with a nasty case of ringworm. The poor guy. We're doing everything we can to keep him comfortable, but we really can't provide the care he needs because everything is so inaccessible.
